La Locanda del Cantoniere
I’d go for La Locanda del Cantoniere if you want a stay beside the Great Dolomites Road at Località Vervei. The views are part of the appeal.
More about this place
La Locanda del Cantoniere is a small Alpine hotel now presented by its operator as Ciasa Vervei. It sits beside the Great Dolomites Road at Località Vervei, around 8km from Cortina d’Ampezzo, with mountain views and a quieter setting outside town.
The former road keeper’s house has been renewed with natural materials, including larch, stone pine and clay. Wood-furnished rooms have private bathrooms, safes and televisions; the sun terrace looks toward Cortina and the surrounding peaks. The on-site Franz Josef Stube restaurant adds a convenient dining option.
Choose it for access to mountain walks and the nearby Skyline gondola connection between the Tofane and 5 Torri ski areas. Opening lifts and snow conditions govern winter access. Parking is available, but this roadside mountain base requires more planning for town evenings than a central Cortina hotel.
