The Dolomites and northern Italy

A mountain journey, with room to choose

The nine-day Adventure adds a Non Valley day, a dedicated Sorapis outing and more time in Val Gardena. This is a wider northern Italy loop, not 9 days spent entirely in the core Dolomites. Treat saved stops as choices rather than appointments to complete.

One main mountain outing a day

Leave room for lifts, road access, transfers and the return. A full Tre Cime walk, the Braies lakeshore and the move to Val Gardena should not become three compulsory excursions.

Prefer a shorter journey?

Compare Highlights, but shorten the activity list along with the number of days. A shorter trip does not remove every transfer.

Choose your season and bases first

The broad May–October route label is not an opening calendar. Check the exact lift, road and walk for your dates; summer access rules do not carry over unchanged into winter.

Your 9-day route at a glance

Explore The Dolomites

Start with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.

Day 1Garda

Plan the day: Choose selected Garda stops and leave room for arrival. Towns on different sides of the lake are choices, not a checklist.

If plans change: Shorten the lake day when arrival or weather requires it.

Things to do

  1. Scaligero Castle2h
  2. Gardone Riviera2h
  3. Malcesine1h
  4. Garda Lake Drive2h

Suggested stay

Day 2Non Valley

Plan the day: Choose a Trento or Non Valley focus. Town sights, the canyon and Madonna della Corona need travel and visiting time between them.

If plans change: Drop secondary stops rather than carrying a packed day into the next transfer.

Things to do

  1. Madonna della Corona1-2h
  2. Downtown Trento1-2h
  3. Buonconsiglio Castle2h
  4. Diga Di Santa Giustina15m
  5. Canyon Rio Sass2h

Suggested stay

Day 3Cortina

Plan the day: Pick one principal lift or mountain outing before Cortina. The saved list includes more choices than a relaxed day needs.

If plans change: Shorten the route if a lift, pass or forecast does not suit your plans.

Things to do

  1. Lago di Carezza30m
  2. QC Terme Dolomiti2-4h
  3. Terrazza Delle Dolomiti1h
  4. Rifugio Lagazuoi1h
  5. Passo Giau1h

Suggested stay

Day 4Cortina

Plan the day: Give Sorapis its own mountain day. The official route includes exposed and equipped sections; choose it only if terrain and conditions suit your experience.

If plans change: Choose a different suitable outing near your Cortina base if exposure, weather or trail conditions are unsuitable.

Things to do

  1. Lago di Sorapis5-7h

Suggested stay

Day 5Cortina

Plan the day: Make Tre Cime the main walking day and leave time to reach Val Gardena. Braies and Val di Funes are optional additions, not two more full excursions.

If plans change: Keep secondary stops for another day when access, weather or walking takes longer.

Things to do

  1. Tre Cime di Lavaredo3-4h
  2. Lago di Braies2hOptional add-on
  3. Val di Funes1hOptional add-on
  4. Chiesetta di San Giovanni30mOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 6Ortisei

Plan the day: Choose Seceda or Alpe di Siusi for the main outing. Keep any paragliding booking separate from assumptions about the lifts and walking day.

If plans change: Use a shorter local plan when mountain conditions or lift operation change.

Things to do

  1. Alpe di Seceda2-3h
  2. Paraglide over Seceda1hOptional add-on
  3. Alpe di Siusi2-8hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 7Ortisei

Plan the day: Use the extra Val Gardena day for a specific Sassolungo walk, or a slower Ortisei day. Choose the route and its effort before committing.

If plans change: Do not turn a recovery or weather day into another compulsory long hike.

Things to do

  1. Sassolungo3-8h
  2. Ortisei2h

Suggested stay

Day 8Brenta

Plan the day: Plan a defined Brenta outing around the transfer and your ability. Check the chosen route and the stay’s arrival arrangements.

If plans change: Shorten the walk when the journey or conditions need more room.

Things to do

  1. Brenta Dolomites5-7h

Suggested stay

Day 9Milan

Plan the day: Keep the Milan leg and your departure buffer clear. Verify the actual travel arrangements before adding any further stops.

If plans change: An unassigned activity day is useful flexibility, not missing sightseeing.

Things to do

Keep this day flexible for travel and exploring.
