The Dolomites and northern Italy
A mountain journey, with room to choose
The six-day Highlights plan connects Garda, Cortina, Val Gardena and Brenta before its Milan travel day. This is a wider northern Italy loop, not 6 days spent entirely in the core Dolomites. Treat saved stops as choices rather than appointments to complete.
One main mountain outing a day
Leave room for lifts, road access, transfers and the return. A full Tre Cime walk, the Braies lakeshore and the move to Val Gardena should not become three compulsory excursions.

Adventure leaves more room for a Sorapis day and a second Cortina and Val Gardena focus. Check access and your walking experience before choosing.
Compare Adventure →Choose your season and bases first
The broad May–October route label is not an opening calendar. Check the exact lift, road and walk for your dates; summer access rules do not carry over unchanged into winter.
Compare overnight bases · Choose when to go
0Planning sources checked November 2, 2026: Tre Cime access, Seceda lifts and Sorapis terrain. Check again for your dates.

Explore The DolomitesStart with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.
Day 1Garda
Plan the day: Choose one or two Garda stops rather than trying to tour the whole lake. Keep room for your arrival and the next day’s drive.
If plans change: Use the lake towns as alternatives if arrival or weather reduces your time.
Things to do
Suggested stay
Day 2Cortina
Plan the day: Choose one main lift outing on the way to Cortina. Terrazza delle Dolomiti and Lagazuoi are separate commitments, not two compulsory stops.
If plans change: If a lift or pass is unsuitable, shorten the day and continue to your overnight base.
Things to do
Suggested stay
Day 3Cortina
Plan the day: Make Tre Cime the main mountain day and allow for the move to Val Gardena. Braies, Val di Funes and Sassolungo are optional choices, not extra full outings to complete.
If plans change: Keep the mountain walk for suitable conditions; leave the other viewpoints for another day rather than rushing the transfer.
Things to do
- Tre Cime di Lavaredo3-4h
- Lago di Braies2hOptional add-on
- Val di Funes1hOptional add-on
- Chiesetta di San Giovanni30mOptional add-on
- Sassolungo3-8hOptional add-on
Suggested stay
Day 4Ortisei
Plan the day: Choose Seceda or an Alpe di Siusi walk as your main outing. Treat paragliding as a separately booked option, not an activity guaranteed to fit between both.
If plans change: Use time in Ortisei or a shorter suitable walk if mountain conditions or lift operation change.
Things to do
- Alpe di Seceda2-3h
- Paraglide over Seceda1hOptional add-on
- Ortisei2hOptional add-on
- Alpe di Siusi2-8hOptional add-on
Suggested stay
Day 5Brenta
Plan the day: Choose a specific Brenta walk that fits the approach from Val Gardena and your experience. The whole mountain area is not one fixed trail.
If plans change: A shorter local outing leaves more room for the following travel day.
Things to do
- Brenta Dolomites5-7h
Suggested stay
Day 6Milan
Plan the day: Leave this day for the Milan leg and your departure arrangements. Check the actual airport or station and keep a generous travel buffer.
If plans change: Do not use an empty activity list as an invitation to add another long mountain excursion.
Things to do
Keep this day flexible for travel and exploring.
