Where to stay in the Dolomites

Choose the mountain days first. Use Val Gardena for a trip centered on its lifts and walking areas, or the Cortina side for an eastern focus. If you want both, compare changing bases with the extra driving from one hotel.

Curated stays are planning choices, subject to availability. Use current road and site guidance for access; pins are not a driving route.

Before you set off

Choose a base for your mountain days

  1. Val Gardena: choose the town as well as the valley

Seceda’s Ortisei lift access and the wider Val Gardena walking network make the valley a useful base. Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva are distinct places; check each hotel’s address, parking or bus connection before choosing it. [3][4]

  2. Cortina and surroundings: plan the approach

Use this side when your priority is a walking day around Tre Cime or the Passo Tre Croci approach to Sorapis. Neither trail is a stroll from a central Cortina hotel; include travel, parking or the shuttle in your plan. [1][5]

  3. One base or a change of hotel?

One base keeps packing and check-ins simple. Changing between the western and eastern areas can make sense when several chosen outings pull in different directions. Compare actual journeys for your dates; a map pin is not a driving-time estimate.

  4. Check the exact stay

Look at the room type, occupancy, cancellation terms, meals, parking and late-arrival arrangements. The hotels below are curated location choices, not live rates or a claim that every room is available.

Questions before you go

Should I stay in Ortisei or Cortina?

Start with your outings. The Ortisei lift provides access toward Seceda; Cortina is on the eastern side for a different set of mountain days. Choose the town that reduces travel for the walks you actually want, or use more than one base. [3][1]

Are all Val Gardena hotels in Ortisei?

No. Val Gardena includes several towns. Read each property guide and check its exact address and transport connection; the map groups these stays by a broader planning area.

Are the Highlights overnights all in the Dolomites?

No. The saved six-day loop includes Garda, Cortina, Val Gardena and Brenta before its Milan travel day. The overnight examples below reflect that wider trip, not a recommendation to change hotels every night of a mountain-only stay.

Can I book the stays directly from this guide?

Open a hotel guide to explore its booking choices. Confirm dates, occupancy, final price and terms with the provider. Inclusion here does not show available inventory.
