The Dolomites in May

Plan May around the towns and lower visits you want, keeping mountain days flexible. Check each high trail and summer lift for your dates before building the trip around it.

Plan a May trip

Before you set off

Keep the high mountains flexible

  1. Early season: build from what is open

Start with towns and lower visits, then add a named lift or walk only when its current operating and trail information supports it. [4]

  2. What if the mountain option is closed?

Keep Ortisei town, Trento’s cultural stops or a Garda extension as deliberate choices. Moving to Garda changes the itinerary and overnight pattern; it is not a nearby fallback from Cortina.

  3. Before fixing the mountain day

Confirm the chosen lift or road, the actual trail conditions and the return for your travel date. Keep the next overnight in the plan. [4][1][2]

Questions before you go

Does the route’s May–October label mean every lift is open?

No. Check the particular lift and trail for the day you intend to visit. The broad route label is not an operating calendar. [4]

What can I choose if a high-mountain outing is unavailable?

If based in Val Gardena, keep an Ortisei town visit in the plan. Trento’s historic centre and Buonconsiglio suit the Trento leg; Garda is a separate extension with different overnight needs.
