4 days in Hawaii

Kauaʻi Nature Escape

I love Hawaiʻi most when the trip leaves room to feel each island rather than racing through a checklist. Choose one or two strong bases, learn the stories behind the landscapes, and let beach time count as real travel—not empty space between sights.

Give each island its own time

The saved route has three Poʻipū overnights followed by 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay on day four. Group the south-side coffee and garden visits before moving north. This is a four-day starting plan with a final saved hotel, so arrange a departure day after it or replace the final night deliberately.

Keep the journey workable

Car or arranged transport; move north on day four. Saved activity durations exclude airport, road, parking and check-in time. The final day also has a saved hotel; arrange a departure day or revise it explicitly.

Keep a flexible day

Keep a land alternative for sea or rain disruption. Check local conditions again before setting off. A booking does not establish safe swimming, trail access or a guaranteed wildlife or eruption sighting.

Check Hawaiʻi ocean safety →

Start with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.

Day 1Poʻipū ArrivalKauaʻi

Plan the day: Arrive at the Poʻipū base and keep Old Kōloa town a flexible local outing. Allow time for the airport, car pickup and check-in.

If plans change: Go straight to the hotel after a late flight; Kōloa can move to the following South Shore day.

Things to do

  1. Old Kōloa Town Food & History1-3h
Day 2South Shore GardensKauaʻi

Plan the day: Keep coffee-estate time and the booked Allerton Garden tour together on the south side. Confirm the garden meeting point and current tour schedule before filling the afternoon.

If plans change: Drop the coffee stop if needed for the garden check-in; choose local town time if a tour is cancelled.

Things to do

  1. Kauaʻi Coffee Estate Tour1-2h
  2. Allerton Garden Sunset Tour3h
Day 3Nā Pali by SeaKauaʻi

Plan the day: The Nā Pali cruise is weather-dependent. Confirm its actual departure port and check-in; do not assume a North Shore departure just because the coast is in the north. Keep the Poʻipū overnight.

If plans change: Choose a South Shore land day if the operator cancels. A cancelled boat outing does not make an exposed coastal hike a safe substitute.

Things to do

  1. Nā Pali Coast Boat Tour4-6h
Day 4Hanalei & North ShoreKauaʻi

Plan the day: Move from Poʻipū to the Hanalei area. The saved hotel is in Princeville above the bay. Hanalei town does not include automatic Hāʻena entry: non-residents need park access reservations, and hiking beyond Hanakāpīʻai Valley requires the relevant Nāpali camping permit.

If plans change: If heavy rain or road access disrupts the north, revise the overnight with the hotel. The saved final night requires departure planning after day four.

Things to do

  1. Hanalei Town & Bay2-6h
