Guanacaste & Nicoya: places and practical plan

Tamarindo and Langosta suit a beach base. Playa Grande and Playa Negra are different localities; Liberia is a mainland gateway, and Manzanillo is much farther south on the peninsula.

Make the time count

The practical plan

  1. Choose the shape of the day

Choose your beach before your hotel. Do not use the collection name Nicoya as the location of every property. [1]

  2. Allow for the approach

The saved Pacific route stays around Tamarindo and does not require a ferry. A southern Nicoya detour needs its own road or Puntarenas–Paquera ferry plan. [1]

3 places
  1. 01 · Liberia, mainland Guanacaste

A mainland gateway and town stop, not a beach on the Nicoya Peninsula. Check whether your flight uses LIR or SJO before treating Liberia as a convenient stop in the saved Pacific plan.

  2. 02 · Manzanillo, southern Nicoya Peninsula

This saved Pacific beach is near the southern peninsula, not the Caribbean Manzanillo by Puerto Viejo. Its location makes it a separate extension from Tamarindo; plan roads or a peninsula ferry deliberately.

  3. 03 · Tamarindo, Guanacaste

A practical Pacific beach base for a slower stay, with Langosta and other coastal localities nearby. Keep the tide, surf conditions and exact accommodation location central to your beach plans.
