I’d keep Rockefeller Center Ice Skating in mind for a stop in New York City.
More about this place
Rockefeller Center Ice Skating is the classic one-hour glide beneath the Prometheus statue, framed by Midtown towers and, during the holidays, the city’s most famous Christmas tree.
General Skate gives you a timed 60-minute session, with skate rental added separately; the rink is compact, so the appeal is atmosphere rather than distance. Early-morning and later-evening sessions feel calmer, while December afternoons deliver the full festive spectacle and the heaviest crowds.
The 2026–27 season runs from October 10 through March 27. Reserve well ahead for weekends, school breaks, and December, arrive no more than ten minutes before check-in, and dress for an outdoor session that usually continues in light weather.

Original curator notes · check current details.
Choose your skating date around the tree lighting if having the illuminated tree overhead is the reason you want this rink. The skating season starts earlier, so an open rink alone does not mean the full Christmas scene is in place.
