Plan Christmas around the dates that overlap
The saved route contains five days, with Midtown lights, markets, a show and Brooklyn. Seasonal labels are broad: the lit Rockefeller tree, individual markets and performances have different start and end dates.
Keep the day geographically close
Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens are connected by transit, but a borough name is not a walking cluster. As an editorial planning buffer, allow 30–60 minutes for a cross-town or interborough journey, then check the exact door-to-door trip with MTA. Queues, stairs and service changes can add time.
Compare the four routes →Check the reservation that shapes the day
Book skating and shows for a specific session, then fit nearby browsing around them. Do not plan a fixed return from Dyker Heights into a Broadway curtain. It is a separate southwest Brooklyn evening, beyond DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights.
Compare hotel bases & room layouts →The 2026–27 holiday dates
- Rockefeller tree: lighting scheduled December 2, 2026; the official page lists display through mid-January 2027. Daily visiting hours still need confirmation.
- Bryant Park: Winter Village October 28, 2026–February 28, 2027; Holiday Shops end January 3. Skating needs a session reservation; rentals and extras cost separately.
- Grand Central Holiday Fair: November 9–December 24, 2026; closed Thanksgiving. Check its date-specific hours.
- Columbus Circle market: December 1–31, 2026 on the organizer’s current listing. Confirm holiday hours.
- Union Square and Radio City: use the organizer’s current calendar for your day. Do not assume that either runs throughout the route’s broad November–January season.
For the lit tree and the confirmed market windows above, early to late December is the useful overlap to investigate. Individual dates and opening hours still control the final route.
Subway, stroller and weather checks
Use contactless payment or OMNY and check the train’s letter or number, direction and current service. With a stroller, choose an accessible station where possible and check elevator status. MTA says to fold strollers and carry children on stairs and escalators. Keep one nearby indoor alternative and move outdoor walks when weather calls for it.

Your 5-day route at a glance
Explore New York CityStart with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.
Day 1Fifth Avenue LightsNew York City
Plan the day: Keep Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center and a reserved rink session in one Midtown outing. The 2026 tree is scheduled to be lit December 2; a November visit needs a different expectation.
If plans change: If skating is unavailable, keep the windows and plaza visit. Avoid building a tight timed booking around lighting-night crowds.
Things to do
- Fifth Avenue Holiday Windows1-2h
- Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree30m
- Rockefeller Center Ice Skating1-2hOptional add-on
Suggested stay
Day 2Park & PerformanceNew York City
Plan the day: Combine a manageable park walk with the Natural History Museum, then leave a meal and travel break before Radio City. Columbus Circle’s market is a seasonal option, not an all-November fixture.
If plans change: Choose the museum or a longer park visit. Confirm the specific Christmas Spectacular performance rather than assuming a show runs at the time you want.
Things to do
- Bethesda Terrace & Bow Bridge1h
- American Museum of Natural History2-5h
- Columbus Circle Holiday Market1hOptional add-on
- Radio City Christmas Spectacular2-3h
Suggested stay
Day 3Winter Village & BroadwayNew York City
Plan the day: Bryant Park, the Schwarzman library and Grand Central make a useful Midtown cluster. Check the fair’s date window and library visitor access, then leave a pre-theater break.
If plans change: A bad-weather day can focus on Grand Central and the library, with a shorter market visit. Do not book skating directly against a theater curtain.
Things to do
- Bryant Park Winter Village Holiday Market1-2h
- New York Public Library Schwarzman Building1-2h
- Grand Central Holiday Fair1h
- Broadway Show2-4h
Suggested stay
Day 4Brooklyn Holiday LightsNew York City
Plan the day: Keep DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights together, then travel separately to Dyker Heights in southwest Brooklyn. Allow at least 60–90 minutes each way as an editorial transit allowance from the waterfront, plus walking, and check the current route.
If plans change: Visit the promenade before leaving for Dyker Heights instead of returning afterward. Resident displays vary; there is no single guaranteed switch-on time or central admission ticket.

Day 5Village to Union SquareNew York City
Plan the day: Use Union Square, SoHo and the Village as a downtown day. Fit a reserved Tenement Museum tour only if its time and the market’s current dates work with your actual departure.
If plans change: Choose the walk that is still seasonal and open. The saved plan includes a Pod hotel after this day, but any extra night still needs its own reservation.

- NoHo & SoHo Cast-Iron Architecture Walk1-2h
- Greenwich Village History Walk1-2h
