Follow the neighborhoods, then the appetite
Five days move from Chelsea and downtown Manhattan to Brooklyn, Museum Mile, Harlem and Queens. This is a food-and-arts route, with room for a gallery door or a café to change the afternoon.
Keep the day geographically close
Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens are connected by transit, but a borough name is not a walking cluster. As an editorial planning buffer, allow 30–60 minutes for a cross-town or interborough journey, then check the exact door-to-door trip with MTA. Queues, stairs and service changes can add time.
Compare the four routes →Check the reservation that shapes the day
Reserve a specific Tenement Museum tour. Most apartment tours exclude children under five, and access differs by tour. Check museum opening days and the actual food-tour meeting point. Ask the operator directly about dietary requirements, allergens and step-free access before paying.
Compare hotel bases & room layouts →Subway, stroller and weather checks
Use contactless payment or OMNY and check the train’s letter or number, direction and current service. With a stroller, choose an accessible station where possible and check elevator status. MTA says to fold strollers and carry children on stairs and escalators. Keep one nearby indoor alternative and move outdoor walks when weather calls for it.

Your 5-day route at a glance
Explore New York CityStart with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.
Day 1Chelsea ArtNew York City
Plan the day: Browse a small Chelsea gallery cluster and give the Whitney a deliberate museum block. Check the galleries’ individual opening days instead of assuming every door is open.
If plans change: If gallery hours do not fit, keep the Whitney as the anchor and make a neighborhood café the pause.

Day 2Immigration & FlavorNew York City
Plan the day: Book a specific Tenement Museum tour, then explore Chinatown and the cast-iron blocks of SoHo/NoHo. Keep food stops flexible around the tour time.
If plans change: Ask about dietary requirements and allergens directly. If the tour is full, keep the neighborhood walk rather than treating the museum as walk-in access.
Things to do
Suggested stay
Day 3Brooklyn CreativeNew York City
Plan the day: DUMBO and Williamsburg are separate Brooklyn neighborhoods. Choose the food tour’s confirmed start time and meeting point, then plan a subway or other connection; allow roughly an hour as an editorial door-to-door buffer, longer with disruption.
If plans change: The bridge walk is optional. Staying with either DUMBO/Brooklyn Heights or Williamsburg gives a calmer day than crossing back and forth.
Things to do
- DUMBO Waterfront & History Walk1-2h
- Williamsburg Food Tasting Tour3h
- Brooklyn Bridge Walk1-2hOptional add-on
Suggested stay
Day 4Museum Mile & HarlemNew York City
Plan the day: Give either the Met or Guggenheim the main museum block. Harlem is farther north and needs a separate journey; make the lunch or walk there the second anchor, rather than a hurried add-on between two museums.
If plans change: Choose Museum Mile plus Central Park if the Harlem booking or journey does not fit. Keep the other museum optional.
Things to do
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art2-5h
- Harlem Mount Morris Walk & Soul Food Lunch3h
- Guggenheim Museum1-3hOptional add-on
Suggested stay
Day 5Long Island City & AstoriaNew York City
Plan the day: MoMA PS1 is in Long Island City; Astoria is a separate Queens neighborhood. Check the exhibition calendar and plan the connection before the food walk.
If plans change: If the exhibition is closed or the departure time is tight, choose one neighborhood and keep time for luggage and the airport journey.
