More about this place
New York Transit Museum is an underground museum inside a decommissioned subway station, filled with vintage cars, turnstiles, signage, and hands-on stories of how New York learned to move.
Descend to the platform and walk through train cars from different eras, comparing seats, maps, advertisements, and design details. Children gravitate to the controls and vehicles, while adults find a layered social history of the city below street level.
Advance tickets are strongly recommended and released three weeks ahead. The main entrance uses two flights of stairs; a separate wheelchair-accessible entrance is at Schermerhorn and Court Streets.

Original curator notes · check current details.
Compare the same details in cars from different eras, such as seats, advertisements and route maps. Following one small feature through the collection makes the changes in everyday subway life easier to notice.
