I’d keep Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in mind for a stop in New York City.
More about this place
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is New York’s Thanksgiving-morning spectacle: enormous character balloons, marching bands, floats, and performers moving through Manhattan toward Herald Square. The 100th parade takes place on November 26, 2026. Watching from designated public street areas is free; Macy’s does not sell public grandstand seats.
Choose a public viewing area from Macy’s current official map, arrive well before the first floats, and stay in one place as the parade passes. Allow roughly five to seven hours for early arrival, waiting, the procession, and leaving the crowd. The 2026 viewing blocks and access instructions were still awaiting publication when checked, so confirm them before committing to a particular corner. A hotel or brunch reservation only includes a parade view when that exact product explicitly provides it.
Use the subway and approach on foot from the same side of the route as your viewing area; barricades and street closures can prevent easy crossings. The map marks the Herald Square finish for context, while 42 St–Bryant Park is a possible Midtown arrival hub whose access must be checked against the day’s closures. Wear warm layers and comfortable shoes, carry a small bag, and plan food and restroom needs before taking your place. Long standing times and dense crowds make this better for older children; check the current NYPD item restrictions, leave pets behind, and arrange access needs in advance.

Original curator notes · check current details.
Choose street viewing for the moving balloons, bands and floats. If the choreographed performances are your main interest, the television broadcast delivers a different experience from watching along the public route.
