More about this place
Central Park Carriage Ride is a private horse-drawn outing along the park’s drives, with a driver sharing stories about the scenery and familiar landmarks. The slow pace, open carriage and sound of hooves make it a gentle way to step away from Midtown’s traffic. It works well for couples or families who want a classic park experience with relatively little walking.
Expect views of lawns, mature trees and the park’s southern landmarks, with the precise loop depending on the ride you choose. Short versions give a brief introduction, while longer rides reach more sights and may include photo stops around Bethesda Terrace or Cherry Hill. Your driver can help with photographs; a longer sightseeing route does not mean that every landmark is an extended stop.
Allow about an hour for a standard ride and meeting your driver near the park’s southern edge at Seventh Avenue. Confirm the selected duration and pickup instructions before setting out, because short and longer rides are sold alongside one another. Carriages normally return to the same meeting area, and operations depend on weather and the conditions permitted for the horses.
2 expert tips
Original curator notes · check current details.
Choose a longer ride if Bethesda Terrace and time for photographs matter to you. The cheapest short loop covers less of the park, so compare the actual route rather than the carriage’s appearance.
Bring a warm layer in cool weather, even when blankets are provided. You will spend most of the ride sitting in an open vehicle, and a hat or gloves can make a winter outing much more comfortable.
