More about this place
Castle of Brolio is a hilltop Chianti estate where fortified walls, formal gardens and vineyard views tell the story of the Ricasoli family, whose ownership is documented from 1141. Repeated rebuilding left medieval bastions alongside Romanesque, neo-Gothic and nineteenth-century details; this is a living estate rather than an untouched medieval fortress.
Allow 1–2 hours for the self-guided grounds, views and the included single-wine tasting at the Wine Shop near the winery. Ordinary grounds admission does not promise the family's private apartments or a cellar tour. The Ricasoli Collection in the castle tower is an optional combined ticket, accessible with the estate's guides. Longer winery visits and tastings require a separately reserved experience and more time.
Individual grounds visitors can buy tickets at the entrance; groups of ten or more must book ahead. Children through age twelve enter free. The estate lists parking beside the castle ticket office. Check the official calendar before driving out: winter closure runs from January into March, opening hours shorten in autumn, and private events can affect access. Wine tasting is an adult option, while the gardens and castle setting give families a separate reason to visit.
