I’d keep Tiscali Village Hike in mind for a stop in East Coast.

I like to choose an Italian region for its own rhythm, then give it enough time. Rome rewards long walks between ancient landmarks and neighborhood tables; Florence and Tuscany pair Renaissance art with vineyards and hill towns. In the Dolomites, the mountains and the season set the pace, while Sardinia calls for coastal drives, clear-water coves, and time in its villages.

My favorite approach is to leave breathing room between the famous sights. Choose a city trip, a Tuscan or Sardinian road journey, or an alpine adventure from this collection, then let the smaller moments become part of the trip.

Tiscali Village Hike is a mountain trek to the remains of a prehistoric settlement inside a collapsed limestone dome. The ruins date back to the Nuragic era and offer a glimpse into one of the island’s most mysterious ancient settlements, completely invisible from the outside.

The hike to Tiscali starts near the Lanaitho Valley and takes you through dense oak forests, rocky ascents, and panoramic vistas over limestone ridges. Once you reach the sinkhole, you’ll find scattered stone dwellings tucked into the shade of the hollowed-out cliff. There’s also a wooden lookout deck offering a surreal view of the collapsed interior.

TIP: The trail involves uneven terrain and some mild scrambling. Closed-toe shoes and good balance are essential.

TIP: Bring cash if you want to enter the site — there’s a ranger at the top who charge a small entrance fee.

Use a car between Cala Gonone, Orosei, Baunei and the selected trailheads or harbors. The mountain roads and boat departure points matter more than the Region’s map center. A boat ticket does not automatically include cave entry or access to every protected beach.

The hotel is around 900 metres from the town and marina, rather than directly on the beach. A complimentary scheduled shuttle serves the town’s beaches and harbour; confirm its times against an early sailing. Check the chosen room, meal plan, seasonal pool operation and current parking arrangements before arrival, and allow for the uphill return if walking.
