I’d put Cagliari Town on the list for a bit of local history.
More about this place
Cagliari Town is Sardinia’s historic capital, with the hilltop Castello quarter, old harbor neighborhoods, and sea views. Medieval lanes and bastions sit above the Marina district, where cafés and trattorias make an easy place to pause.
Allow three to six hours for a city walk, choosing a few neighboring areas rather than treating every attraction as compulsory. Explore Castello’s public streets and viewpoints, then descend toward the Marina and Via Roma. There are steep slopes and steps, so shorten the loop in hot weather or when traveling with limited mobility.
For a food-market detour, San Benedetto’s traders currently operate in the temporary covered market at Piazza Nazzari while the historic building is rebuilt. The municipal timetable lists Monday to Friday 07:00–14:00 and Saturday 07:00–15:00, closed Sunday; check current notices before going.
The cathedral, archaeological museum, Roman amphitheater, botanical garden, Poetto beach, and Molentargius park are alternatives for extending or adapting the visit. Paid interiors, guided visits, beach time, and journeys beyond the central walk need their own access checks and extra time. A café stop is extra spending, not included admission.
