I’d go to Cortona for a look at the architecture.

More about this place

Cortona is a Tuscan hill town with Etruscan roots, medieval palaces, cobbled lanes, and views across the Valdichiana. Artisan shops and small squares give a walk here plenty of places to pause between the steeper streets.

Allow around three hours for the historic center, viewpoints, and an unhurried food stop. Start with the central squares and choose a manageable loop rather than assuming every uphill landmark fits. Park in signed visitor parking outside restricted streets, wear shoes with grip, and leave spare time for the climb back.

For a longer visit, choose the MAEC archaeological museum or another ticketed attraction separately. MAEC is the Museo dell’Accademia Etrusca e della Città di Cortona, not a second museum alongside it. Paid interiors, the Girifalco fortress, and excursions beyond town need additional time and current access checks.
