More about this place

Kohanaiki Beach Park Campground is a permit-based coastal camping area north of Kailua-Kona, beside a white-sand and lava-rock shoreline popular with local surfers. It offers a simple beach-park stay with scattered shade, rather than a serviced RV resort.

Camp in the designated camping areas and use the shared restrooms, outdoor beach showers and drinking-water facilities. Bring your own camping equipment and supplies. The shore is rocky in places and surf conditions can change sharply; a calm-looking day does not guarantee suitable swimming.

Arrange the county camping permit before arrival and collect the required overnight parking pass at the guard shack. Access is through Hulikoa Drive, around the private resort toward the public beach park. The gate closes at 9pm and reopens at 5:30am, so plan your arrival and evening outings around that window.
