More about this place

Hoʻokena Beach Park Campground is a tent-camping option beside the beach in South Kona, cared for by Friends of Hoʻokena Beach Park. Shaded grounds, picnic tables and the oceanfront setting make it a simple base for travelers bringing their own camping equipment.

Shared county restrooms, camper toilets, outdoor showers and drinking-water faucets cover the basics. Camp only in designated areas, keep tents freestanding and use the provided cooking fire pits under current rules. The southern cliffside is outside the camping area and is both hazardous and culturally sensitive.

Arrange permits through the official campground page, allowing at least three days for an online booking. There is no late check-in after 8:45pm, so leave time for the narrow final approach and gate hours. Pets are prohibited; follow the beach patrol’s directions and respect the local fishing community.
