North, by nature

Finland,
at your pace.

A harbour city, snowy fell country, a summer lake. Choose the Finland you want to feel, then give the journey room to breathe.

Start with your season

Four ways into Finland.

Each is a complete saved starting plan, including arrival and departure days. Choose the shape of the trip before choosing the nights.

The part you want to get right

Plan beyond the route.

Choose the neighbourhood, the season and the journey between them. These guides answer the decisions the day list cannot make for you.

Rovaniemi, at a human pace

Give a day to the place

From sea walls to snowshoes.

Start with one main outing. Leave time for the ferry, the forest and the return.

Somewhere to settle in

Stay for the setting.

These are the four selected bases across the starting routes. Compare locations before room rates.

The shape of your trip

A little space goes a long way.

Pick a season, then a route

Snow days and lake days belong to different trips. The two winter routes use December–March; the Saimaa route uses June–August. Helsinki’s year-round city plan changes with the light and island services.

Give transfers their own time

Helsinki is easy to explore without a car. The longer winter route moves 260 km from Rovaniemi to Saariselkä. Saimaa’s hotel, Oravi departures and Punkaharju are separate locations; arrange the whole connection.

Keep the weather day open

Short winter daylight, snow conditions and summer wind can change a day. Check attraction calendars, tour participation and cancellation terms. Northern lights and seal sightings are never guaranteed.

Before you go

A few useful answers.

Which Finland itinerary fits a first trip?

For three days, keep a Helsinki base. With five winter days, choose the Santa-focused Rovaniemi route. Seven winter days support Rovaniemi and Saariselkä; seven summer days combine Helsinki and Saimaa. Travel days are part of those totals.

Can I combine Helsinki, Lapland and Saimaa in a week?

Choose one of the saved journeys first. Lapland and Saimaa are different directions and seasons; trying to include both adds major transfers. The summer route already includes Helsinki, while the winter route starts in Rovaniemi and ends near Ivalo.

When should I go for snow or lake activities?

The winter routes are saved for December–March, subject to snow and each attraction’s calendar. Saimaa is saved for June–August. Helsinki works year-round, with a different island experience in winter. Check current opening dates and the weather before booking.

Do I need to drive?

Helsinki works on foot and public transport. Rovaniemi can work with local transport and booked tour pickups. The longer Lapland route needs a confirmed northbound connection; Saimaa needs a car or arranged transfers between the hotel and activity departures.

Will I see the northern lights?

Northern lights are never guaranteed. You need darkness, a clear view and aurora activity. Book a winter trip you would enjoy for its snow, culture and sauna even if the sky stays cloudy.
