Lapland winter hotels & glass igloos

Choose Rovaniemi for Santa days, Saariselkä for fell country, and a glass-roofed room for its setting. Match the airport and daily pickups first. An igloo, a sauna suite and an activity package are different bookings.

Choose the airport before the room

Rovaniemi suits Santa-focused days and the start of the seven-day winter route. Ivalo is the closer airport for Saariselkä. Lapland North lists Rovaniemi–Saariselkä at 260 km and Ivalo Airport–Saariselkä at around 25 minutes by car. That is a regional estimate, not a door-to-door transfer promise: check the exact hotel, bus stop, flight and winter conditions.[1]

Compare a room, an igloo and a package

Star Arctic distinguishes Scenic Suites, Sauna Suites and Aurora Glass Cabins. Kakslauttanen has separate East and West Villages and named glass-igloo and log-cabin categories. Apukka offers glass-roofed accommodation as well as activity packages. Read the booked category’s bathroom, beds, sauna and meal terms; a property-level description cannot establish what your room includes.[3][4][2]

Make transfers part of the comparison

Santa Claus Holiday Village places you inside the Santa village area; Apukka is a separate resort and needs its own connection. Star Arctic is on Kaunispää fell above Saariselkä village; Kiilopää is another base outside the village. Confirm pickup points and the last return after dinner or an evening tour. A resort activity is not automatically included for every guest.[5][2][3][6]

Buy the stay for the setting

Glass keeps you warm while looking at the sky, but cloud and aurora activity still decide the view. Northern lights are never guaranteed. Decide whether the room, sauna and daytime setting justify the stay even on a cloudy night. Keep a spare evening and agree the operator’s weather cancellation terms before paying.

Read the meal plan line by line

Star Arctic’s advertised Experience Packages include full board and transfers; do not apply that to every room-only reservation. Check breakfast, dinner service, dietary requests, children’s meals and the restaurant walk for your exact rate. Compare the final stay total for your party, including transfers and activities, rather than unrelated nightly examples.[3]

Curated stays are planning choices, subject to availability. Use current road and site guidance for access; pins are not a driving route.

This is a location and room-choice guide. Open each stay for booking options; compare current dates, party size, final totals, taxes, meals and cancellation terms. Map pins show property locations, not transfer routes.

Before you go

A few useful answers.

Does a glass igloo guarantee northern lights?

No. Glass provides a view of the sky from indoors. Cloud cover, darkness and aurora activity still matter. Choose a room you would enjoy even if the sky stays cloudy.

Should I fly into Rovaniemi or Ivalo?

Use Rovaniemi for a Santa-focused stay. Ivalo is the closer gateway to Saariselkä. For the seven-day winter route, compare arriving in Rovaniemi and leaving from Ivalo against the cost and logistics of returning south.

Can I stay in one hotel for the whole winter route?

The saved seven-day plan uses three nights at Santa Claus Holiday Village and three at Star Arctic in Saariselkä. Rovaniemi–Saariselkä is about 260 km, so use the two bases or choose the five-day Rovaniemi route instead.

Are airport transfers and meals included?

Only if the exact rate or package says so. Star Arctic advertises full-board Experience Packages with transfers, but that does not define every room rate. Confirm arrival flight, pickup, meals, luggage and children’s arrangements directly.

Is this a guide to the Lapland Hotels chain?

This is a destination comparison across several operators in Finnish Lapland. It is not a ranking or official guide to the Lapland Hotels brand.
