I’d put Pīpīwai Trail & Waimoku Falls on the list for a hike.
More about this place
Pīpīwai Trail & Waimoku Falls is East Maui’s signature rainforest hike, climbing past banyan roots, Makahiku Falls, and a resonant bamboo grove before ending at the viewpoint for 400-foot Waimoku Falls. The four-mile round trip changes character repeatedly, which gives the route its cinematic pull, but humid air, mud, roots, and elevation make it a real hike rather than a quick Road to Hāna photo stop.
Allow about four hours at Kīpahulu, plus the long drive beyond Hāna. National-park admission applies and is paid by card; fill the fuel tank and carry food because neither is available in the district. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, rain protection, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent. The trail is not wheelchair accessible, and stream entry or crossing closed barriers is unsafe during flash-flood conditions.

Original curator notes · check current details.
Protect enough daylight for both the hike and the return drive.
Check current park conditions before leaving Hāna, and obey every stream or trail closure—the pools and watercourses are never worth entering against official warnings.
