More about this place
Kapalua Coastal Trail is an easy shoreline route links crescent beaches, lava points, resort gardens, and wave-battered overlooks along northwest Maui. Paved sections and boardwalk alternate with uneven lava, creating a walk that feels varied without becoming a demanding hike; frequent beach access makes it easy to pause for swimming, photography, or winter whale watching.
Set aside about two hours for an unhurried out-and-back walk, longer if you stop at the coves. There is no trail admission or advance booking, but public beach parking fills quickly and the exposed sections offer little shade. Most travelers can manage the gentler portions, while the rough lava segments require secure footing and are less suitable for wheels or anyone unsteady on broken ground.
Allow one to three hours, from a shorter shoreline section to an unhurried out-and-back walk. Extra beach time and the drive from your hotel are separate.

Walk early, carry water, and use reef-conscious sun protection.
Pair the route with breakfast or sunset, and judge every swim by posted ocean conditions rather than its appearance from the path.
