More about this place
Māhāʻulepū Heritage Coastal Trail is a wild South Shore walk leaves the manicured Poʻipū resort edge for limestone cliffs, dunes, coves, native vegetation, and a layered cultural landscape. Starting at Shipwreck Beach, the route follows the coast through exposed scenery with frequent pauses for seabirds, winter whales, and photography rather than one single summit or destination.
Set aside about three hours for a comfortable out-and-back segment and turn around according to heat, footing, and the posted access hours. There is no admission or routine reservation, but portions cross privately managed land kept open through stewardship; gates, closures, and protected areas must be respected. The path is mostly gentle yet rough, sunny, and unsuitable for wheels, with no dependable shade or services after the resort area.
Allow one to three hours, choosing a shorter out-and-back section or a longer coastal walk according to the footing, heat and available daylight.
