More about this place
Limahuli Garden & Preserve is a mountains-to-sea garden that tells Hawaiian history through canoe plants, ancient terraces, native forest, and active ecological restoration.
The self-guided loop climbs steadily beneath the Makana ridge, with interpretation that connects each plant to food, medicine, craft, and place. It is one of Kauaʻi’s most thoughtful cultural landscapes.
Allow two to three hours to follow the self-guided loop and read the interpretation, with more time for a slower visit. The garden recommends at least 90 minutes on site.

Original curator notes · check current details.
Reserve parking in advance or use the north-shore shuttle option when offered; the narrow road and limited lot leave little room for spontaneous arrivals.
