Canyon, Hayden & the lake guide

The canyon is a strong anchor for this part of Yellowstone. Norris, Lamar and Yellowstone Lake appear in the same source collection but need separate journeys.

Make the trip fit you

Make the day fit the journey

A canyon day

Choose a rim and a small set of viewpoints, then decide whether Point Sublime adds a worthwhile walk. It is on the south rim. Keep parking, walking and the drive to your overnight separate. [1]

Hayden on the way to the lake

Use Hayden Valley pullouts and a short Mud Volcano walk on a southward journey. A full lake walk, every canyon viewpoint and a distant overnight need more than the source visit allowances. [2]

Give Lamar its own space

Lamar Valley is northeast of Tower Junction. Do not read the Canyon Village source group as a compact local area or make Lamar a compulsory detour on a southward transfer. [1]
