Machu Picchu: tickets, circuits & connections

Start with the exact circuit and entry time, then match the train, town overnight and uphill transfer. A saved itinerary does not reserve any of them.

Make the trip fit you

Make the connections work

Three circuits, ten different routes

Circuit 1 is Panoramic, Circuit 2 is Classic and Circuit 3 is Royalty. Routes within them differ. The Ministry marks 1-C, 1-D, 3-C and 3-D as high-season-only; use its route maps and the live ticket selector for your date. [1][2]

Book the sequence as separate parts

Choose a circuit, route, date and entry time on the official ticket system. Match transport with sufficient arrival margin, then choose the town overnight. A rail ticket, hotel booking or trek does not by itself establish citadel admission. [2][3]

Cusco is not the station

PeruRail lists regular rail services and bimodal bus-plus-train journeys. Confirm where your particular departure begins and the return ends; Ollantaytambo, Wanchaq and other listed stations are not interchangeable. [3]

Pueblo is below the site

Machu Picchu Pueblo, also called Aguas Calientes, is the rail-arrival town. Its hotels are below the archaeological site. Arrange the uphill bus or walking connection separately, including time before your entry slot. [5]

Trek access is a separate decision

The source Inca Trail is a four-day guided, permit-dependent option. Salkantay is a separate trek; classic Choquequirao is a four-day out-and-back, not a short path ending at Machu Picchu. Confirm a specific operator itinerary and the applicable trail notice. [6]

Read the short route honestly

The four-day Escape saves a Cusco arrival day, a Sacred Valley-to-Pueblo day, a citadel visit with return to Cusco, and departure. This is tight and leaves little recovery or disruption margin. Consider adding time and seek qualified advice about altitude. [5][3]

Questions before you go

Does one ticket cover every Machu Picchu circuit?

No. Choose the exact circuit, route, date and entry time. The three circuits have different coverage, and some routes operate only in high season. [1][2]

What should I check again before travel?

The four-day Escape saves a Cusco arrival day, a Sacred Valley-to-Pueblo day, a citadel visit with return to Cusco, and departure. This is tight and leaves little recovery or disruption margin. Consider adding time and seek qualified advice about altitude. [5][3]
