When to visit Peru

Choose a season for the part of Peru you plan to explore. Lima’s coast, the Andes and the Amazon do not share one weather calendar.

Make the trip fit you

Make the connections work

Andes: plan around rain and cold nights

PROMPERÚ describes April–October as the drier Andean period and November–March as wetter. This is regional planning context, not a guarantee for any mountain day or a statement that every trail is open. [4]

Coast: a different rhythm

Lima and the central coast can be mistier in the southern winter. The saved Lima and Coastal Peru route is labelled November–April; its beaches, city time and desert stops are a different choice from a trek-focused trip. [4]

Amazon: let the lodge shape the days

Rain and high humidity matter throughout an Amazon visit. Confirm the lodge’s boat transfers and current expedition options instead of assuming a Cusco weather forecast describes Iquitos. [4][5]

February trail closure is specific

SERNANP’s January 2026 notice closed the Inca Trail network for February 2026 maintenance. It is not a closure notice for the citadel, nor proof of a future year’s dates. Check the current trail notice and your exact citadel route separately. [6][1]

Transport is part of the season

PeruRail publishes seasonal train schedules and bus-plus-train services. Check the departure station and current notice for the actual date; a timetable page is not a booking confirmation. [3]

Questions before you go

Do the coast and Andes share one season?

No. The central coast can be mistier in the southern winter, while April–October is generally the drier Andean period. Choose around your actual regions and check access separately. [4]

What should I check again before travel?

PeruRail publishes seasonal train schedules and bus-plus-train services. Check the departure station and current notice for the actual date; a timetable page is not a booking confirmation. [3]
