Peru hikes: choose your mountain journey

Compare separate hiking regions and expedition lengths. A Colca canyon walk, Cordillera Blanca trek and Cusco-to-Machu Picchu journey need different bases and travel days.

Make the trip fit you

Make the connections work

Choose a region before a trail

The Cordillera Blanca lies outside the saved southern Peru routes. Colca is a separate canyon journey from Arequipa. Their inclusion in one collection does not make them neighbouring day hikes.

A trek can be the whole trip

Santa Cruz, Salkantay, Choquequirao and the Inca Trail each occupy multiple days in the source. Replace part of a fast sightseeing route or add the full expedition time; do not insert one into a spare afternoon.

Altitude and access come first

Discuss your actual sleeping elevations and strenuous outings with a qualified travel-health clinician. Check the operator route, current trail access and permits; physical fitness alone does not establish altitude readiness. [5][6]

Questions before you go

Are all these hikes close enough for one short trip?

No. The Cordillera Blanca, Colca and Cusco-area treks need different bases and travel days. A multi-day trek replaces part of a fast sightseeing route or needs extra time.

What should I check again before travel?

Discuss your actual sleeping elevations and strenuous outings with a qualified travel-health clinician. Check the operator route, current trail access and permits; physical fitness alone does not establish altitude readiness. [5][6]
