Days 1–2 · Christchurch and Tekapo
Arrive and rest in Christchurch, then make the Mackenzie journey your next day. Keep a lakeside stop and a Tekapo night; Castle Hill is a different inland detour.

For ten days, keep a clear direction: Christchurch → Tekapo → Aoraki → Wānaka → Queenstown → Te Anau. Finish in Queenstown, with the return leg planned before your flight.
Arrive and rest in Christchurch, then make the Mackenzie journey your next day. Keep a lakeside stop and a Tekapo night; Castle Hill is a different inland detour.
Use one day for the move into Aoraki and a shorter permitted outing. Keep the other for Hooker Valley or another walk suited to conditions. Choose Mount Cook Village or account for the approach from Twizel. [1]
Move south through Wānaka, choosing a lakeshore stop or an extra walking night. Roys Peak needs its own day and current access; avoid a full climb plus another long transfer. [3]
Use Te Anau as the next base. Reserve a full day for Milford Road and the cruise, returning to Te Anau or choosing an actual Milford night. [4]
Return to Queenstown with a margin, choose an easy local day and keep time for the airport. Book the flight and one-way rental terms before fixing the endpoint.
Add nights and rework the direction through Fox or Franz Josef. Do not insert a glacier flight and a return across Haast into this already focused ten-day plan.

The details that shape the journey
This is an editorial planning outline using places already in Fyno’s collection. The two saved itineraries include both islands; this outline is not a newly saved or bookable app itinerary.
No. Use NZTA and your rental provider for current route conditions, then allow for breaks and stops. The overnight sequence is a planning choice, not a timetable.
