Where to stay in New York City

For a first visit centered on Broadway and Midtown, start with Midtown West. Choose the Upper West Side for park-and-museum days, downtown Manhattan for neighborhood evenings, or Brooklyn when its waterfront and local streets are part of the trip. The right room and subway connection matter more than the borough name.

The choices that matter

Choose the setting before the room

Midtown West: Broadway on your doorstep

Choose this base when several nights end in the Theater District. Pod Times Square is in Midtown West near Port Authority, rather than directly on the pedestrian plaza. Its efficient bunk, full and queen rooms suit different parties; check occupancy and luggage space. A central address still means busy streets and a separate ride to the harbor or Brooklyn. [12][1]

Upper West Side: parks and museum mornings

This is a useful alternative for the Family Escape route’s Central Park and Natural History Museum day. Hotel Beacon lists studios and suites with kitchenettes, including layouts with a separate living area. Check the exact bed and sofa-bed configuration, maximum occupancy and accessible features for your party; a suite label alone does not settle them. [13]

Downtown Manhattan: choose your evening streets

The Village, Lower East Side, Chinatown, Tribeca and the Financial District are different settings. Consider The Ludlow Hotel, The Marlton, Hotel 50 Bowery or The Beekman as starting points. Use each hotel’s actual address to choose between food-and-gallery evenings and harbor access. Leave a separate subway journey for Midtown shows. [1]

Brooklyn waterfront or Boerum Hill?

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge is at 60 Furman Street beside Brooklyn Bridge Park. Ace Hotel Brooklyn is inland in Boerum Hill, on the edge of Downtown Brooklyn. The first puts the waterfront into your day; the second offers a different neighborhood and transit approach. Neither is a Times Square base. Check the full walk to the station, especially with a stroller or late arrival. [15][14][1]

Williamsburg and Long Island City are separate choices

The Hoxton, The William Vale and Wythe Hotel are Williamsburg options. Long Island City is in Queens, with LIC Hotel, Boro Hotel and Hyatt Place among the listed stays. Choose the actual block and train connection for your daily route. A skyline photograph does not establish a short door-to-door journey to every Manhattan attraction. [1]

Book the room for the people, then the view

Ace Brooklyn lists a Double category with two queen beds; Hotel Beacon offers several studio and suite configurations. Confirm occupancy for your children’s ages, bedding, cot availability and any charge directly. Ask about elevator access and a room away from nightlife or event spaces if those affect your stay. A quiet-room request is a preference, not a promise. [14][13][12]

Holiday nights and the final total

During Christmas, proximity to the specific show or skating session can be more useful than a postcard address. Compare the full stay total for your exact dates, including taxes, mandatory fees, cancellation terms and room type. Questions before you go

Is Brooklyn better value than Manhattan?

It depends on the property, room and dates. Compare full totals and the actual subway journey. A waterfront luxury hotel can cost more than a compact Midtown room.

Does the family route include a family room?

No room is reserved. Its saved hotel is Pod Times Square, whose room categories need an occupancy check. Compare Hotel Beacon’s configurations or Ace Brooklyn’s two-queen Double if they fit the rest of your trip.

Should I rent a car for these routes?

These are New York City routes. Walking and subway connections are the starting point. Check current MTA service and elevator status; airport transfers and any trip outside the city are separate plans.
