The Crystal Ice Cave is a unique natural wonder inside the Vatnajökull glacier. The cave's walls are made of translucent ice that glows in various shades of blue and turquoise, creating a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere. The caves in this glacier are formed and destroyed every summer, so there is no single permanent cave. All the caves throughout the years feature the same unique characteristics, making it worth the visit every year. The only way to explore these marvels is taking a guided tour of the cave, which typically starts at Jökulsárlón Lagoon parking lot and consists of a 30-minute ride on a Super Jeep to the glacier, a short hike, and then exploring multiple caves. TIP: Most tours are great, but Tröll Expeditions is our team's favorite and arguably the best based on consistent 5-star ratings over the years and their professional yet fun guides.
