Paris is best explored on foot with the Métro, RER, and buses for longer hops. Chamonix is reached most simply through Geneva Airport and a prebooked shuttle, then navigated with valley buses, local trains, and lifts. A rental car is optional rather than essential; mountain weather, winter roads, luggage, and event traffic still require time buffers.
