Experience with a guide
I’d go to Grands Montets Ski Area for a closer look at the glaciers.
More about this place
Grands Montets Ski Area is a high-vertical, north-facing domain with the valley’s clearest advanced-skiing identity. The working ski area currently rises from Argentière via Plan Joran toward Lognan, with glaciers and the Aiguille Verte shaping the terrain.
Treat this as an advanced piste area, not an invitation to improvise off-piste. The Grands Montets summit lift remains unavailable until the later reconstruction phase, and the official 2026–27 plan brings a new Argentière–Lognan gondola for the Christmas period while upper works continue.

Original curator notes · check current details.
The forecast season runs from late November to May 2, subject to conditions. Check the live bulletin before leaving town, stay inside open controlled terrain unless skiing with a qualified guide, and keep Balme or Les Houches as the visibility fallback.
