Rauðfeldsgjá Gorge is a stunning narrow ravine that offers an adventurous experience and an intriguing connection to Icelandic sagas. The gorge is steeped in legend, with the story of Rauðfeldur, who was pushed into the ravine by his uncle Bárður Snæfellsás after a tragic incident involving Bárður's daughter.
The 15-minute hike into the gorge is short but can be challenging, involving a moderately steep ascent and navigating narrow passages. It’s especially rewarding in the summer when you can discover a hidden waterfall inside.
Expect to spend up to an hour here taking in the dramatic views and enjoying the folklore of the surrounding area. Waterproof clothing is recommended as the trail can be wet, especially near the waterfall.
