8 days in Bali

Bali exploration

Bali is my go-to place for a spiritual break and reconnecting with myself. Fascinating jungles, rice field terraces, mystical temples, and stunning beaches make Bali a truly magical place, transporting you far away from your day-to-day life.

The journey between the places

Leave Bali room to unfold.

The eight-day Exploration route includes a Nusa Penida boat day, Ubud, East Bali and the highlands. Its saved day lists are ambitious: choose one side of Penida, protect time after Batur and shorten the cross-island transfer days.

A boat day, with an Ubud overnight

The saved Penida day selects Zen Sanctuary on Bali that night. A crossing, both island coasts and a drive to Ubud need more space than a list of four beaches suggests. Choose east or west, or add a Penida night.

Plan the island connection โ†’

Read the actual overnight location

Mathis Lodge is above Amed with an uphill transfer. Le Aiken is south of the northern lake area. The sourceโ€™s Denpasar and Bratan groups describe broad curation areas, not compact towns.

Choose the bases โ†’

Daily notes below follow the exact saved membership and overnights. They stop applying when a custom plan changes that order. Arrange regional transport ยท Compare both routes

Before travelling, check Indonesiaโ€™s official visa guidance for your passport and the Bali tourist levy and exemptions. These replace the catalogโ€™s dated entry summary; no current visa eligibility or quoted trip budget is assumed.

Your 8-day route at a glance

Explore Bali

Start with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.

Day 1Denpasar

Plan the day: Start in Sanur and choose either a Denpasar city stop or a west/Bukit coast focus. Uluwatu plus Kuta/Seminyak is a broad southern loop, not a compact arrival stroll.

If plans change: After a late arrival, keep the first afternoon for Sanur and the selected Tandjung Sari overnight.

Things to do

  1. Bajra Sandhi Monument1h
  2. Uluwatu Temple1hOptional add-on
  3. Kuta & Seminyak3hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 2Nusa Penida

Plan the day: This is a boat day with an Ubud overnight back on Bali. Choose the western cliffs or the eastern Diamond Beach area; the saved four-stop east/west list is too ambitious to treat as compulsory.

If plans change: If crossing conditions or timing do not work, stay on Bali and move the island visit. Add a Penida night if seeing both coasts matters.

Things to do

  1. Kelingking Beach1-2h
  2. Diamond Beach1hOptional add-on
  3. Crystal Bay1hOptional add-on
  4. Broken Beach & Angel Billabong1-2hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 3Ubud

Plan the day: After a pre-dawn Batur outing, keep recovery time and shorten the Tampaksiring list. The mountain pickup and return are additional to the hike.

If plans change: Choose the northern rice terraces and one temple instead if a mountain outing does not fit current conditions or your energy.

Things to do

  1. Sunrise on Mount Batur5h
  2. Tegallalang Rice Terraces1-3hOptional add-on
  3. Pura Tirta Empul1hOptional add-on
  4. Candi Tebing Gunung Kawi2-3hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 4Ubud

Plan the day: Keep this day around Ubud, Campuhan and Sanggingan. Choose the walk, art or palace focus rather than rushing all four.

If plans change: Swap an exposed walk for an art visit or time at your stay in heavy rain.

Things to do

  1. Campuhan Ridge Walk2h
  2. Ubud Monkey Forest2hOptional add-on
  3. Neka Art Museum1-2hOptional add-on
  4. Ubud Palace2hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 5East Bali

Plan the day: Choose a Karangasem focus on the move east. Tukad Cepung, Besakih, Tirta Gangga and Lempuyang are not four compulsory appointments before an Amed hillside arrival.

If plans change: Drop the gorge in wet weather and reduce the temple list to leave time for the lodgeโ€™s uphill transfer.

Things to do

  1. Tukad Cepung Waterfall1hOptional add-on
  2. Besakih Great Temple2hOptional add-on
  3. Tirta Gangga3h
  4. Lempuyang Temple2hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 6Bratan

Plan the day: This starts from Amed and moves into the highlands. Leave the cross-island transfer its own space; choose Lake Beratan and at most one nearby stop.

If plans change: Use the day for the transfer and check-in when traffic or weather takes the margin.

Things to do

  1. Leke Leke Waterfall1hOptional add-on
  2. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple2h
  3. Bali Handara Gate1hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 7Bratan

Plan the day: Sekumpul and Jatiluwih sit in different highland areas. Choose one main walking outing, then return to the selected countryside stay.

If plans change: Use a shorter viewpoint or a rice-field stroll instead of a strenuous descent in unsuitable weather.

Things to do

  1. Sekumpul Waterfall4h
  2. Jatiluwih Rice Terraces3hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 8Denpasar

Plan the day: Keep the last day for the airport journey, with an actual pickup estimate from the highland stay. No overnight is selected for this final travel day.

If plans change: Move the last night south if the flight time and mountain-road transfer would make the departure too tight.

Things to do

Keep this day flexible for travel and exploring.
