I’d go to Urquhart Castle for a stop beside Loch Ness.
More about this place
Urquhart Castle is a ruined stronghold beside Loch Ness, where surviving walls and open views give the loch's history a tangible setting. The visit works as an exploration of the castle itself rather than merely a place to search the water for a monster.
Allow about two hours for the visitor entrance, interpretation and the open ruins. Follow the current site route and choose any tower or stepped section according to your mobility and the conditions. A loch cruise is a separate experience unless your exact ticket explicitly combines it with landing admission.
Reserve a dated time well ahead in the busy season. The official operator warns that once online tickets sell out, additional admission is not available at the castle. Allow for the walk between visitor centre and ruins, wear shoes with grip and check weather-related closures before travelling.
