The Munken Trail is considered a moderately difficult day hike. The well-marked path takes you through varied terrain, from lush valleys to rocky ascents, with the Munkebu hut awaiting at the end of the first part of the hike. Here you can rest, enjoy the panoramic vistas, and decide whether you want to continue up to the Munken summit or go back right away.

The Munkebu hut itself provides a stunning accommodation option, but you have to be a DNT member plus the booking process might be simply not worth it. Check the booking and DNT details in the links section.

Wear suitable hiking footwear, pack a waterproof jacket, and bring water and snacks to enjoy at the summit. It might be one of your most epic meals during the trip.

Moskenes

The Bodø to Moskenes Ferry is a scenic way to get to Lofoten Islands after landing in the major airport in Bodø. This offers a memorable journey through the dramatic landscapes of the Norwegian coastline.

During high season from June to August the ferry departs 6-8 times a day from early morning to late night. So if you want to start your itinerary as early as possible in Moskenes – land, get your car, and head straight to the ferry terminal. It will still take you 3 or 4 hours to get to Moskenes.

In low season, or if you don't want to stress out about tight schedules – start your trip with the first night in Bodø, and depart to Moskenes the very next morning. There are just two ferries from Bodø to Moskenes outside of summer months: early morning and ~4 pm, so plan accordingly.
