Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is a soaring Gothic church where royal ceremony meets remarkable individual lives. Coronations, royal tombs and the memorials of Poets’ Corner give you several different ways into its history, from the monarchy to the writers whose names you already know.

Allow one to three hours inside, pausing beneath the vaulted ceilings and among the tombs rather than trying to read every memorial. The included multimedia guide gives the building context; verger-led tours offer a closer introduction when available. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries require a separate ticket.

Book a sightseeing entry and check the church calendar before choosing your day. Ordinary sightseeing runs Monday to Saturday; Sunday services are worship rather than a substitute for a visitor ticket. Ceremonies can change access, and large luggage cannot accompany you inside.
