5 days in England

London with the Kids

Come for the landmarks, then leave room for the London that lives between them. I’d pair the royal stories with a guided food discovery and a few neighbourhood surprises, choosing a different pace for a first visit, a return trip or a city adventure with the kids.

London · A city base, with room to explore

Plan for their energy, not just the map

River views, the Tower and a dedicated Studio Tour day. Four days with activities, then room to leave unhurried. The final day has no saved attractions. The Hoxton, Holborn is the suggested base for every overnight; it is not a confirmed reservation. Keep arrival flexible and move days to suit actual opening times.

Choose one main outing

The Tower can fill the main part of a day. Tower Bridge’s exhibition is optional afterward. The Studio Tour in Leavesden needs its own day and travel plan. Younger children may prefer shorter museum visits and a park or river break.

Keep a real rainy-day swap

The Natural History Museum and Science Museum are close to each other in South Kensington. Choose one as a replacement for an outdoor day. Science Museum entry needs a free pre-booked ticket; reserve a free Natural History Museum ticket to guarantee entry.

Transport, ages & access

Use public transport between clusters and walk within them. Plan the airport connection separately; the station-to-hotel walk and stairs matter with luggage or a buggy. Check TfL’s step-free guide and live lift status for your actual journey. Calendar temperatures are catalog seasonal estimates, not a forecast for your dates.

The standard Elizabeth Tower tour is ages 11+ and climbs 334 steps. Big Ben on this route can simply be an exterior view. The Tower has cobbles and does not allow buggies inside the White Tower. The London Eye requires folding buggies before the boarding queue; Tower Bridge offers lift access for buggies. Check sensory needs and age suitability directly for each venue. Admission to the Studio Tour must be booked ahead; Euston–Watford Junction and the shuttle are separate parts of the journey.

Your 5-day route at a glance

Explore England

Start with this expert-curated route, then customize the days and stops in your trip. Stays below are suggestions; availability depends on your dates.

Day 1An easy riverside startLondon

Plan the day: Look at Big Ben from outside, then decide whether a timed London Eye ride suits arrival time and energy. Keep food and a rest break in the plan.

If plans change: The standard Elizabeth Tower tour is for ages 11+ and involves 334 steps. Looking at Big Ben from the street works for younger children without a tower booking. The London Eye requires buggies to be folded before the boarding queue, or left in its ticket-office storage.

Things to do

  1. Big Ben30m
  2. London Eye1h

Suggested stay

Day 2Choose the Tower as your anchorLondon

Plan the day: Give the Tower of London time rather than rushing between two interiors. Tower Bridge is close by, but its exhibition is an optional second visit after lunch.

If plans change: With younger children, stop after the Tower and a river walk. The Tower has cobbles and excludes buggies from the White Tower; use a buggy park. Tower Bridge has lift access for buggies. Check current accessible routes before booking.

Things to do

  1. Tower of London2-5h
  2. Tower Bridge Exhibition1-2hOptional add-on

Suggested stay

Day 3Market lunch, then Roman LondonLondon

Plan the day: Borough Market and Guildhall are on opposite sides of the Thames. Plan a proper transfer and make the amphitheatre the only extra stop, rather than a long chain of sights.

If plans change: The market normally closes Monday. For heavy rain, replace this outing with the Natural History Museum or Science Museum in South Kensington; these are swaps, not saved route stops. Reserve the relevant free entry ticket.

Things to do

  1. Borough Market Food Walk3h
  2. London's Roman Amphitheatre30m

Suggested stay

Day 4A day for the Studio TourLondon

Plan the day: Warner Bros. Studio Tour is in Leavesden, outside central London. Book admission first, then plan Euston–Watford Junction and the shuttle. Keep the rest of the day light.

If plans change: The operator quotes about 20 minutes on direct Euston trains and around 15 minutes on the shuttle, before connections and waiting. If sold out, use one South Kensington museum day instead; do not promise admission.

Things to do

  1. Warner Bros. Studio Tour London7-8h

Suggested stay

Day 5An unhurried farewellLondon

Plan the day: No attraction is saved on the departure day. Leave time to pack, collect luggage and reach your actual airport terminal.

If plans change: For a late flight, choose a small outing near your base. Check the step-free journey and lift status if travelling with a buggy.

Things to do

Keep this day flexible for travel and exploring.
