I’d keep God's Own Junkyard in mind for a stop in London.
More about this place
God's Own Junkyard is a Walthamstow warehouse filled with a glowing jumble of neon: salvaged signs, film props, fairground lettering and artworks compete for every bit of wall space. It feels closer to stepping into a sign-maker’s unruly imagination than visiting a white-walled gallery.
Give yourself an hour to look through the colour and lettering, then take a seat in the café if you want to linger. Entry is free, while drinks, food and anything you are tempted to buy are extra. Some signage has adult themes, making this a better family choice for older children.
Public opening is Friday to Sunday, with occasional early closures for private events. Check the current notice before making the journey to Ravenswood Industrial Estate. Phone photography for personal use is allowed, but DSLR cameras are not; this is a working collection rather than a place for an unrestricted photo shoot.
