More about this place
Gulf of Georgia Cannery is a preserved industrial waterfront where the machinery and stories of British Columbia’s fishing industry remain close together. Inside the old Steveston cannery, enormous equipment and accounts of working life reveal the people behind the familiar tin of salmon.
Allow about two hours for the historic building and exhibitions, pausing at the machinery and stories that catch your attention. This is a museum visit inside the cannery; a walk through Steveston village or along the fishing harbour is additional time.
The cannery normally opens daily from ten to five, with special closures listed separately. Bring a warm layer: the building over the water can feel cooler than outdoors. The site is wheelchair accessible, though historic floors can be uneven, and ordinary pets cannot enter.
