More about this place
Takakkaw Falls is a short walk to a towering waterfall in Yoho's steep-sided valley. Spray, falling water and the scale of the surrounding rock make this a strong scenic experience without adding a demanding high-country hike.
Use the designated falls day-use area at the end of Yoho Valley Road, follow the maintained approach to the viewing area and return the same way. Allow about an hour for the walk and photographs, with road travel from your Lake Louise base additional. Longer trails from this area are separate outings.
Check that the seasonal road is open and suitable for your vehicle before leaving. Tight switchbacks limit access to cars and small RVs; larger vehicles need another plan. Parking fills quickly in summer, and spray can make paths wet, so bring a layer and respect barriers around the falls.
