More about this place
Moraine Lake Rockpile Viewpoint is the classic elevated encounter with a turquoise lake enclosed by the Valley of the Ten Peaks. The short rise changes the composition of the water and mountains, making the viewpoint a specific outing rather than a promise to hike the whole surrounding valley.
Use reserved transport from the designated Park and Ride, follow the signed Rockpile route and return to the lake's boarding area. Allow about four hours from check-in to return, including the shuttle legs, normal waiting and roughly two hours at the lake. High demand can extend this; keep the return instructions and do not add another major outing unless the booked timetable allows it.
Personal vehicles are prohibited on Moraine Lake Road except for the published limited exceptions. Reserve a park shuttle or licensed commercial option, retain the return instructions and check seasonal operation. Steps and uneven rock make access more demanding than the short distance suggests; snow and closures can remove the outing entirely.
On Parks Canada shuttles, pets must fit inside a clean carrier held on your lap for the entire journey. Larger pets need another permitted transport arrangement; keep dogs leashed at the lake.
