More about this place
Sundance Canyon Loop is a riverside approach that ends in a narrow, water-filled canyon, where a rougher footpath climbs among rock steps and forest. The transition from open Bow Valley views to the enclosed canyon gives the walk its character.
Begin at the Cave and Basin trailhead, follow the paved approach to the canyon and complete the signed hiking loop before returning the same way. Allow around three hours. The current park description gives a 3.7-kilometre approach each way plus a roughly two-kilometre loop, so this is a substantial walk rather than an add-on after a museum visit.
Wear hiking shoes and carry water and a weather layer. The canyon section is steep and uneven even though the approach is paved; choose only the gentler approach if that better matches your mobility. Check trail notices and wildlife guidance before leaving the visitor area.
