Experience with a guide
I’d keep Norquay Via Ferrata in mind for a stop in Banff.
More about this place
Norquay Via Ferrata is a guided introduction to climbing high above Banff, using fixed cables, metal holds and a harness on the mountain’s rock faces. Crossing the suspension bridge with the Bow Valley below is a very different thrill from looking out through a gondola window.
The Explorer route is the shorter introduction: roughly two to two and a half hours, one kilometre and 125 metres of ascent. Allow three hours with equipment and check-in. A guide is required; this is not an independent trail, and longer Norquay routes have different durations and demands.
Explorer participants must be at least twelve and meet the operator’s 40–120 kilogram weight range. Reserve in advance, wear the required footwear and expect exposure to heights and weather. Summer dates and departure times vary; confirm the actual operating calendar for your trip.
