I’d go to Johnston Canyon-Ink Pots Hike for waterfall views.
More about this place
Johnston Canyon–Ink Pots Hike is a longer walk beyond the busy waterfall walk into a quieter mountain valley, where clear spring pools bubble up in an open meadow. The appeal is the change from enclosed canyon walls to space, water and mountain views.
Allow around five hours for the roughly 11.4-kilometre return route from Johnston Canyon, passing the falls before continuing on the signed forest trail to the Ink Pots. Return the same way. The falls are included in this outing, so do not schedule the separate canyon walk as extra time on the same day.
The normal canyon trail, day-use area and main parking are closed for repairs through December 11, 2026. This description covers the usual route after reopening; do not use it as a current diversion route. Carry water, food and weather layers, follow wildlife guidance and remain on the trail around the pools. The longer distance and uneven ground make this a hiking day, not a short viewpoint stop.
