Getting around
Rental car is the best way to properly explore Switzerland. You will also need train or gondola rides to reach remote locations occasionally.
Language
Switzerland has four official languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh. The language will depend on the region, but English is widely spoken as a second language, especially in urban and tourist areas like Zurich, Geneva, Lucerne, and Interlaken. Hotels, restaurants, and transportation hubs in these cities often have English-speaking staff and signage. Swiss public transport (trains, buses, and boats) is highly efficient and tourist-friendly. Signs and announcements are often available in English, and it's easy to use apps like the Swiss Travel System for planning. In rural areas or smaller towns, the local language will prevail (Swiss German, French, or Italian depending on the region), and English might be less common, though many locals can still communicate in basic English. English is widely understood in Switzerland, but we recommend learning a few basic phrases in the local language of the region you're visiting (German, Italian, and especially French).
Safety
Switzerland is one of the safest countries in the world.
