Sand and heat change the effort
Dune 45 and the Deadvlei approach are exposed. Choose one main walk, carry water and sun protection and leave time to return to the vehicle. [2]
Choose the terrain and commitment first: a dune climb, a granite visitor walk, a heritage visit and a multi-day canyon trek require different preparation.

Spitzkoppe’s arch and visitor walks are different from the main peak. Twyfelfontein is a guided heritage visit rather than a free-form hike. [11]
Fish River’s multi-day trek needs a dedicated trip, NWR arrangements and a current status check. It is not a substitute for a short rim viewpoint walk. [7][8]

Dune 45 is a separate climb on the park road. Choose it for dune views; you do not have to climb it as well as every other dune on a Deadvlei day.

Choose Deadvlei for the white pan, dark camelthorn trees and red dunes. The journey includes park entry, the dune road, sandy access and a final walk.

Make the granite arch and surrounding landscape the focus of a Spitzkoppe stop. Climbing the main mountain is a different undertaking from visiting the arch.

A smaller canyon close to the park entrance can complement the dune day when temperature and conditions allow.

Choose the canyon rim viewpoints for a short visit. This is a different outing from the multi-day trail down in the canyon.

Plan the multi-day Fish River trek as a separate expedition, not an extra walk on the 15-day driving route. It is not a saved activity in the default itineraries.

Choose a short authorised path around the main stop and keep the approach, return and onward drive in the day. A saved duration describes the activity, not the whole journey.
No. It is a multi-day undertaking requiring its own planning and reservations. Use the rim visit for a shorter canyon experience. [7]
