Before you set off

Leave room for the journey

Connect the right outings

Keep private boathouses and working fishing areas private. A public village walk, a view from above and a sightseeing boat offer different perspectives without entering residents’ homes.

Plan the approach and return

Build the trip around the current bus connection and last return, then add the village walk or boat outing. Leave time for the journey back to Kyoto if that is your next overnight. [3]

Choose an overnight base

Choose a funaya for the waterfront experience, then confirm the exact building, access, meal arrangement and check-in contact. A temple lodging is a different setting from a boathouse.

Questions before you go

How should I fit this into my trip?

Choose your base and the main outing before adding optional stops. Read the linked full route for its actual day order and selected overnights.

Are the map and visit times a transport schedule?

Map pins show locations. Curated visit allowances exclude approach journeys, connections, queues and the return. Check the exact service or operator for your travel date.
